<<0>> On this podcast,

<<1>> you will hear from world-class speakers and experts

<<3>> on education, inspiration, and actionable tips

<<7>> to help you live your best dōTERRA life.

<<9>> My name is Ludo Bolcato,

<<10>> Product Education Manager of dōTERRA Europe,

<<13>> and I'm pleased to be your host today.

<<14>> On today's episode, I'm speaking to Dr Brannick Riggs,

<<18>> VP of Essential Oil Education at dōTERRA Corporate.

<<21>> And truly one of the most passionate voices

<<23>> when it comes to essential oils and wellness.

<<26>> Together, we'll explore the top 12 essential oils,

<<29>> those foundational favourites that every home should have,

<<32>> along with Dr Riggs' top tips, tricks,

<<35>> and creative ways to use them.

<<37>> Let's get started.

<<39>> - Brannick, thank you so much for joining us today.

<<41>> - It's fun to be here. Thank you.

<<43>> - Do you know that it was a year ago

<<45>> since we launched our first podcast episode?

<<47>> - Wow. - One dōTERRA year.

<<48>> - It's been a year?

<<49>> - Yes. - That's great!

<<50>> Well, I hope people have been taking advantage

<<52>> of the knowledge that we're being able to share.

<<55>> - Yeah. Oh, no, they love that episode.

<<56>> And this is another reason why we wanted to have you again.

<<60>> - Oh, thank you.

<<60>> - So, it's a privilege to have you.

<<62>> - So kind.

<<63>> - For the people who don't know you yet,

<<65>> would you mind explaining who you are,

<<67>> what your role is inside dōTERRA, please?

<<69>> - Yeah. So, I'm Dr Brannick Riggs.

<<70>> I'm Vice President of Essential Oil Education for dōTERRA.

<<74>> I'm a family physician, kind of traditionally trained

<<76>> with some integrative training as well.

<<78>> And so, very passionate about education,

<<82>> both from a dōTERRA side and when I'm with my patients.

<<84>> I think it's important that people understand

<<88>> what's going on with them

<<90>> and understand how to take care of themselves.

<<92>> And so, education is a big part of my career professionally,

<<96>> and I love that role at dōTERRA as well.

<<98>> - Amazing. And I love you in that role.

<<99>> - Oh, thank you. Very kind.

<<101>> - I love how you explain the product

<<103>> and the way you make it in a way so simple,

<<107>> but also very scientific at the same time.

<<110>> So, I love that combination.

<<111>> - There's a lot of science with this stuff, right?

<<113>> And if we're not able to break it down

<<115>> to where someone can understand the science

<<118>> and be able to share it with someone else,

<<120>> then the science doesn't really matter,

<<122>> it becomes irrelevant.

<<123>> So, having these conversations,

<<124>> I think are really fun and I think important for us.

<<127>> - Absolutely. I'm so excited for today.

<<130>> So, in today's episode,

<<131>> I thought it would be really, really nice

<<133>> to talk about our foundational oils,

<<135>> some of our foundational oils.

<<137>> In the previous episode that we recorded together,

<<139>> we spoke about the supplements,

<<141>> and I think it's only fair

<<142>> that now we transition to the oils.

<<144>> So, let's get us started.

<<146>> And let's start with one of my favourites, Frankincense.

<<150>> - The king of oils. - Yeah.

<<151>> - Why is this oil so precious,

<<153>> so valuable in our everyday life, really?

<<156>> - Yeah,

<<156>> We have other oils that are largely one chemical compound.

<<160>> The beauty of Frankincense

<<161>> is it has multiple chemical compounds in them.

<<164>> Such a wide variety.

<<165>> And because of that,

<<167>> it can help with almost anything, right?

<<170>> There's so many things.

<<171>> When you think of, "Oh, I need some linalool,"

<<173>> Frankincense has it.

<<175>> "Oh, I need some limonene." Frankincense has it.

<<177>> When you need, let's say some alpha pinene,

<<180>> Frankincense has it,

<<182>> so, it has such a variety of chemistry in it.

<<185>> It really can be applied.

<<187>> That's why people say,

<<188>> "When in doubt, pull Frankincense out," right?

<<190>> Which is great. - Very true. Very true.

<<193>> Any other cool chemicals happening?

<<197>> - Yes, there are some really cool things.

<<198>> Let me share them with you.

<<199>> I brought a paper with me that kind of talks about this.

<<201>> So, let's talk about alpha-pinene for a minute.

<<203>> I mentioned that Frankincense has alpha-pinene in it.

<<206>> I like the fact that the alpha-pinene within Frankincense

<<209>> also inhibits something, it's an antioxidant there

<<212>> called superoxide dismutase.

<<215>> - Amazing. - Yeah.

<<216>> - I know that we recently launched in Europe

<<218>> the Frankincense Stick with Naio Wood,

<<220>> and people have been loving that one.

<<223>> Especially the combination with Naio.

<<225>> - Yes. - Wow!

<<227>> And also the new Frankincense Capsules.

<<230>> - Yeah, Naio, let me just talk for a second about Naio.

<<230>> And so that's why that combination of Frankincense,

<<233>> again, reminding ourselves what to do,

<<236>> and Naio with its alpha-bisabolol in it

<<238>> to really make sure our skin is nice and healthy.

<<241>> - Sounds like a dream combination.

<<242>> - It is a great combination.

<<244>> - Love it. - Perfect.

<<246>> Now, because Frankincense, as we said,

<<248>> is like the king of the oils. - Yeah.

<<250>> - Can we also take a look at the like,

<<253>> Co-Impact Sourcing that's behind this oil?

<<256>> What you can tell us about that?

<<257>> - So, here's what's interesting about our Frankincense.

<<259>> As you probably know,

<<260>> there's a variety of frankincense trees, right,

<<264>> that give us the resin for it.

<<267>> So, what we have done at dōTERRA

<<269>> is we have created a blend of those trees.

<<271>> So, rather than just one specific type,

<<274>> which would have one specific chemical compound in it,

<<277>> we have four types within our Frankincense,

<<280>> so it becomes a blend,

<<281>> which gives us that wonderful variety

<<284>> of chemistry. - Beautiful.

<<285>> - That makes that so much more powerful.

<<288>> And it's amazingly helpful for those people

<<291>> on that side of the bottle as well.

<<293>> So, what I like to do

<<294>> is every time I use my bottle of Frankincense,

<<296>> I think about those on the other side of the world

<<298>> that we're benefiting as well.

<<300>> - It's really cool. - That's really cool.

<<302>> - Okay, next up we have Lavender,

<<305>> which is the calming oil, the soothing oil.

<<308>> We actually source this one from Bulgaria.

<<311>> I've been, I dunno if you've ever been to Esseterre.

<<313>> - I've not yet. - You haven't, really?

<<316>> - Yeah. - You should go there.

<<317>> - I should. - It's a magical place.

<<319>> So why is Lavender from a chemical point of view so special,

<<323>> so powerful as well?

<<324>> - Yeah, Lavender is really about all things calming, right?

<<328>> The other thing that I really love about Lavender,

<<330>> just talk about consistency for a moment.

<<333>> Consistency with chemical constituents is really important.

<<337>> And the reason is,

<<339>> is that when you look at some standards for lavender oil,

<<343>> the standard might be 20% up to 45% linalool

<<347>> and still be called a lavender oil.

<<350>> Well, if I use a lavender oil that's 20%

<<352>> and the next time I use a lavender oil it's 45%,

<<355>> I'm going to get drastically different results

<<357>> from what I'm looking for.

<<359>> The beauty of dōTERRA

<<360>> is that we have very consistent chemical constituents.

<<363>> I'll talk, I'm headed to Japan soon,

<<367>> and we'll be talking there about

<<368>> how we gain that consistency of chemical constituents to it.

<<372>> We figured out the purity.

<<374>> Now we figured out the consistency.

<<375>> You just don't get what we have in any other company.

<<380>> - It feels like we have unlocked a new level.

<<383>> - Correct. - Of purity, consistency.

<<385>> So, I'm really curious to hear what

<<388>> your presentation will be about in Japan.

<<390>> - Yeah, it's pretty cool. - Can you send me something?

<<392>> - Send me a note. - You got it.

<<393>> - You got it. No problem.

<<395>> - Perfect. Now, let's move on to Lemon.

<<399>> It's very uplifting, bright, citrusy.

<<402>> I mean, what's not to love about Lemon?

<<403>> - Yeah. Amazing. - I think it's,

<<405>> for me, it's either that or Grapefruit in the morning,

<<407>> almost religiously every morning.

<<409>> - I'm actually the same way.

<<410>> - Really? - It's those two for me.

<<412>> - No way! - In my water.

<<413>> - I dunno.

<<414>> I think it's just, I love for them two

<<415>> to be part of my routine.

<<417>> It feels instant now.

<<419>> Like, I wake up in the morning, I don't even think about it.

<<421>> I just grab my glass of water and I add a drop of Lemon

<<424>> or a drop of Grapefruit to my water.

<<426>> - There's an enzyme

<<427>> in the liver called glutathione synthetase.

<<430>> - Okay. - Glutathione synthetase

<<433>> takes that glutathione once it's dropped off its toxin

<<436>> and makes it back to a usable form.

<<439>> - Oh wow. - And puts it

<<440>> back into the body.

<<441>> What we know about limonene is it actually

<<444>> induces those enzymes,

<<446>> that glutathione synthetase, to work better.

<<449>> So, now we're even recycling that hormone

<<452>> or that chemical compound even better.

<<455>> - Is there any food source

<<456>> where we can get glutathione from, or is it?

<<458>> - Mainly your citrus.

<<460>> - Citrus. - Right.

<<461>> - Your citrus is the main place for it.

<<463>> There are a couple of others that are minor,

<<465>> but when I think about my citrus oils,

<<467>> whether it be Grapefruit, Wild Orange, Lemon, et cetera,

<<471>> I think about the fact that that limonene

<<474>> is what helps me to get rid of things.

<<476>> - Would you like a drop? - Yes, please. Let's do it.

<<479>> - There you go. - Lovely, perfect.

<<483>> - Yep, just like at home.

<<488>> - I just love the flavour. It's so refreshing.

<<492>> - It's amazing for an oil, you know, you put a drop

<<494>> and oil and water don't mix,

<<496>> but as soon as you put that drop in there, you can taste it

<<499>> in the rest of your water. - You feel it everywhere.

<<500>> - Like it's throughout the water.

<<502>> - Well, maybe one more thing about Lemon.

<<504>> - Yeah, of course.

<<505>> - And your other citrus oils.

<<507>> When using Lemon topically. - Oh yeah.

<<509>> - Or if you're using quite a bit internally,

<<512>> you do need to be careful of sunlight.

<<514>> So for about 12 hours afterwards,

<<517>> after putting Lemon on topically

<<518>> or any of the citrus oils,

<<520>> you're actually a little bit more sensitive

<<521>> to the rays of the sun, the UV rays,

<<523>> and you will burn a little bit more quickly.

<<525>> So, we just need to be careful of that.

<<527>> That doesn't mean that you don't use Lemon oil

<<530>> and it doesn't mean you don't go outside.

<<531>> - Yeah. - Both are just fine for you.

<<533>> But just be careful of that.

<<536>> It can cause problems.

<<537>> And maybe the explanation for that might be,

<<541>> if you think about where we get the Lemon oil,

<<544>> what part of the fruit, do you remember?

<<546>> - The peel. - The peel. Right?

<<549>> What happens if you leave a lemon on a tree for too long?

<<552>> - Oh, it gets like, dark spots.

<<554>> - Yeah, and it becomes, the peel becomes very thin

<<557>> because what's happened is that oil

<<560>> is in there to help ripen the fruit.

<<561>> - Yeah. - It ripens the fruit

<<563>> by concentrating the UV rays of the sun.

<<566>> And so therefore, that will do the same for our skin

<<569>> if we're not careful.

<<571>> So, we don't want to ripen the peel of our fruit.

<<574>> - No, definitely not. - Right?

<<575>> That would be a problem for us.

<<576>> And so making sure that we're aware of that

<<579>> and not going outside

<<580>> or being aware of the sun for 12 hours afterwards.

<<582>> - Yes. Thank you for the reminder.

<<583>> I had momentarily forgot about that.

<<585>> - Of course. Of course. - So, thank you.

<<587>> Okay. Now Peppermint is another favourite.

<<590>> - Yeah. - Many, many people

<<591>> love Peppermint.

<<592>> You know, one of the ways

<<593>> I love to use Peppermint is when I'm overheated,

<<595>> I'll take a couple drops of Peppermint, right?

<<597>> Where's our Peppermint here?

<<598>> Put it on my hands. Oh, this is a new bottle.

<<602>> I just opened a new bottle. - You opened a new bottle.

<<604>> - Lucky. - This is great.

<<606>> So, you put a couple drops on the hand

<<609>> and then put it on the back of the neck, right.

<<612>> And that really within minutes helps the body

<<616>> feel much, much cooler because of that particular pathway.

<<620>> And obviously it's one of the oils included

<<624>> in our ZenGest blend. - For that reason.

<<626>> - For that reason, right. - Absolutely.

<<627>> It's because of the menthol, and the menthol's very strong.

<<630>> - Nice. - In doing that

<<631>> and supporting the GI tract.

<<632>> - Beautiful. - Yeah.

<<633>> - Thank you. - Mm-hm.

<<634>> - Okay. I feel like we should move to the next one.

<<637>> - Which one do we have now?

<<638>> - We have Tea Tree now.

<<640>> - Tea Tree. - And where do we even begin?

<<642>> I guess Tea Tree you can use for a variety of reasons.

<<646>> - Yes. Tea Tree, lots of things with Tea Tree.

<<649>> Tea Tree is topical, right. It's a topical oil.

<<652>> - I usually put it on my, you know, blemishes on the skin.

<<656>> - Sure. - Like even neatly,

<<658>> if I have to, because it's not greasy,

<<659>> it absorb really quickly and it calms down my skin.

<<663>> It feels like, it has a calming, soothing effect for me.

<<665>> - Yeah. - On a topical level.

<<667>> - I never leave the house without Tea Tree.

<<669>> - Wow. It's one you carry with you-

<<670>> - Yes, it is. - At all times.

<<671>> - Yeah, it's one of our all time favourites.

<<673>> - Okay. All right, great!

<<675>> - Okay, next up we have Oregano, or Oregano.

<<679>> It's a very spicy, powerful one.

<<681>> - Yeah. - What can we say

<<683>> about this oil? - Yeah.

<<684>> So, Oregano, which I love how you say that,

<<687>> I wish in the US we had a fancier way to say it.

<<689>> It's Oregano in the US, which is pretty boring.

<<692>> We grow a lot of things in our garden.

<<694>> And one of the things that we do every year,

<<696>> we plant about 45 tomato plants.

<<698>> And we love to bottle salsa

<<700>> because I'm from the southwest of the United States

<<702>> and we love to bottle spaghetti sauce.

<<704>> So our first couple of years within doTERRA, we're like,

<<708>> we can cook with these things.

<<709>> - Yes! - This is amazing!

<<710>> So, we had a big pot of spaghetti sauce.

<<713>> It was boiling on the stove, getting ready to bottle it.

<<715>> And I said- - Oh, I can see

<<716>> where this is going. - Yes, right.

<<717>> Let's use Oregano oil.

<<719>> And so, I grabbed the oregano oil, I put three drops.

<<722>> - Oh no. - Huge pot.

<<724>> - No, you didn't. - Right.

<<725>> You just think, well that's fine.

<<727>> Three drops of oil.

<<729>> All you could taste- - Destroyed.

<<730>> - Was oregano, right.

<<732>> There was no tomato anymore.

<<734>> No garlic, nothing was left but the taste of Oregano.

<<737>> So, we learned very quickly, toothpick. Right.

<<740>> Stir it in, stir the pot. See if you need more.

<<744>> That's how you cook with Oregano. It's a powerful oil.

<<748>> - And nine times out of ten, probably you don't need more.

<<750>> Even just a toothpick. - Correct.

<<752>> - It's more than enough.

<<753>> - Most of the time that's what you do.

<<754>> - So don't be scared of Oregano,

<<756>> just use it with the right precaution.

<<758>> - Correct.

<<759>> Again, the beauty of our channel is

<<761>> you get a person that can help you

<<763>> with all those things as well,

<<764>> not just the bottle of oil.

<<766>> - Very true. - Yeah.

<<766>> - Thank you for the stories. - Of course. Yes.

<<770>> - Next up we have Deep Blue.

<<772>> I particularly love this blend because it keeps me company

<<775>> whenever I'm at the gym, post gym, post run, post hike,

<<778>> it's just a relief to use.

<<781>> I particularly like the Deep Blue Stick, to be honest.

<<784>> But also the oil is really powerful.

<<786>> So I know there might be some Peppermint in it.

<<789>> Is that correct?

<<790>> - There's a little bit of peppermint in it.

<<791>> Yeah. I believe.

<<792>> - Well, what else do we have in there?

<<794>> Why is it so powerful?

<<795>> - So the Deep Blue, let's just be honest,

<<798>> Deep Blue is kind of the gateway oil for men.

<<800>> - Mm-hm. - Okay.

<<801>> - Yeah. It's true. - Usually you ladies

<<803>> are a little bit smarter than we are.

<<805>> You usually come to the oil conversation faster than we do.

<<809>> And usually the husbands are saying, "Okay, babe,

<<812>> you can do that oily stuff, whatever."

<<815>> Until he has a problem.

<<817>> He's gone out and worked in the yard too long,

<<819>> he's gone to play soccer or football with his buddies

<<823>> and he's come back and he's not feeling very good.

<<826>> And the wife says, "Oh perfect,

<<829>> I have some Deep Blue for you."

<<831>> And she puts the Deep Blue on,

<<832>> and now all of a sudden the husband's like, "Yeah."

<<835>> - No, now I understand.

<<836>> - Like, I see what you're doing now.

<<838>> I get it. - Very true.

<<839>> - Because they feel the effect so quickly with it.

<<842>> And so then they're in.

<<844>> I was working with a group of physicians in Hawaii.

<<847>> I was lecturing to a group of docs

<<849>> and I had a gentleman come in.

<<850>> He was probably maybe 70 or so years old.

<<854>> He came in late to this room of about 50 docs.

<<859>> He walked to the back of the room, sat in the back row,

<<863>> leaned his chair against the back wall and crossed his arms.

<<867>> - Oh. - So that body language

<<869>> is yelling at you. - Yeah. Yeah.

<<871>> - Right? Like, I don't want be here.

<<873>> I don't know what. - Yeah, it speaks volumes.

<<875>> - Yeah. So I continued the lecture.

<<877>> We got to the Deep Blue part of the lecture.

<<879>> We passed around a bottle of Deep Blue Rub actually.

<<882>> And we invited people to put some on if they wanted to.

<<886>> And he got it. And we continued on.

<<890>> He, about five minutes later,

<<893>> so we're past the Deep Blue section of the lecture.

<<896>> He slams forward in his chair.

<<898>> - Oh no. - And he's like,

<<900>> "What is happening right now?"

<<902>> I was like, "Do you want to tell me what's happening?"

<<905>> And he's like, "It's getting really hot."

<<908>> It's like, "Yeah, that happens with Deep Blue."

<<911>> And he's like, "Can I have some more?"

<<913>> And so I kind of reviewed the chemistry for him

<<917>> while he was getting the Deep Blue bottle back to him.

<<920>> And I thought this guy was going to undress.

<<922>> He starts unbuttoning his shirt, putting it on his shoulder,

<<925>> pulling up his legs, putting it all over his knees.

<<928>> - And he was, he understood now

<<930>> what we were talking about with the power of oils.

<<933>> - Yeah. - And what he was feeling.

<<934>> When you started telling the story about Deep Blue,

<<936>> I had a another expectation for that story.

<<940>> - You did? - Sometimes I've heard

<<944>> a funny story about Deep Blue- - Yes.

<<945>> And men. - And men. Yeah.

<<947>> - You have to wash hands after putting Deep Blue on.

<<950>> - Yes. - It's true. It's true.

<<952>> Let's talk about the chemistry of Deep Blue,

<<954>> Because I think it's really interesting.

<<955>> - Yeah. - Camphor and menthol

<<958>> in Deep Blue work on that TRP channel.

<<961>> Remember we talked about TRPM8

<<962>> with the menthol in Peppermint.

<<964>> Camphor also works in a TRPM channel.

<<967>> Now what does that do?

<<968>> It modulates our perception of discomfort.

<<972>> So, it doesn't necessarily change the problem,

<<975>> it modulates how we feel about the problem, right.

<<978>> Whether or not we're feeling it. So, it's pretty cool.

<<980>> Also gives us that cooling sensation, which is wonderful.

<<984>> Yeah, and then also protects.

<<985>> It protects against oxidative damage, oxidative stress,

<<988>> that we talked about earlier with that.

<<991>> Those are the terpenes within helichrysum

<<993>> that really help with that.

<<994>> - Nice. - So, it's a great one.

<<995>> - It's a great oil. - Let me tell you

<<996>> my favourite way to use it. - Okay.

<<998>> - When I, because I like Deep Blue, I'm a fan.

<<1001>> I carry it with me all the time as well.

<<1003>> I carry it with me all the time as well.

<<1004>> When I am working at my house,

<<1006>> we're currently doing a remodel in our home.

<<1008>> And then we've got- - Okay, so you need the-

<<1010>> - Yes. We've got the garden, we've got the orchard.

<<1012>> When I have kind of stretched myself a little too much

<<1016>> and I like to come in from that day of work,

<<1019>> get in a really hot shower, as hot as I can stand it.

<<1023>> That opens up the pores, get out of the shower, dry off.

<<1027>> And then I have my wife put Deep Blue Rub on my back

<<1030>> typically is where I feel that the most.

<<1032>> Within about five to seven minutes

<<1035>> it hits so much harder than when you do it

<<1038>> without opening up the pores. - Wow.

<<1040>> - Now, typically my wife hates it when she has that done.

<<1044>> So she doesn't do it.

<<1045>> - Is it too intense? - It's too strong for her.

<<1047>> - Yeah. - But what I find

<<1049>> is when I do that with those pores opened up,

<<1051>> it is so amazing.

<<1053>> And within minutes I'm feeling better.

<<1056>> - I have to try that little trick.

<<1058>> - [Brannick] Be careful, because it is

<<1059>> pretty powerful- - Powerful.

<<1060>> - That first time you do it,

<<1061>> because those pores are wide open.

<<1062>> They're ready for that chemistry and it hits pretty hard.

<<1065>> - And to me, as you were mentioning earlier in the story,

<<1068>> I notice more the cooling feeling

<<1071>> rather than the warming feeling when I use Deep Blue.

<<1073>> - Yeah. - Which is what I want after,

<<1075>> you know, because my body

<<1076>> will be naturally warmer when I exercise.

<<1079>> So, I like to cool it back down.

<<1081>> - Yeah. Yeah.

<<1082>> It's amazing. Deep Blue.

<<1084>> All of the Deep Blue products, really fantastic.

<<1086>> The Deep Blue stick adds that Copaiba.

<<1088>> We'll talk about Copaiba in just a second,

<<1090>> but it also is extremely helpful.

<<1093>> I like the stick because

<<1094>> it's easy to take with me. - Easy, same.

<<1096>> - Right? - Same. I have it in my bag.

<<1098>> - Yeah. Yeah. - Beautiful. Ooh, wow.

<<1101>> With the next one, where do we even begin?

<<1103>> I think we could have another whole podcast episode

<<1106>> just to talk about On Guard.

<<1107>> - Yeah. - I feel like

<<1111>> it's one of our most loved blends ever.

<<1113>> - Yeah. - Particularly now

<<1115>> we are in the season of autumn.

<<1118>> So, I feel like it's a very useful one to have.

<<1121>> - Yeah. - Right at this moment.

<<1123>> Why is it so important?

<<1124>> - Here's what I find interesting about On Guard is that

<<1129>> in the fall, we naturally gravitate

<<1132>> towards certain scents in our home.

<<1134>> We typically associate them with the holidays.

<<1137>> - Yeah. - Think Cinnamon.

<<1138>> - Yeah. - Clove, oranges, right?

<<1141>> And then do you guys have the On Guard

<<1142>> Chewable Tablet here? - We have,

<<1142>> Chewable Tablet here? - We have,

<<1143>> we have that with zinc. - Zinc, beta-glucan,

<<1146>> vitamin C. - C.

<<1147>> - Yeah. - Yes.

<<1148>> - So, another fabulous supplement to that On Guard line

<<1151>> and that's the one that then we would also reach for

<<1154>> when a seasonal threat has arrived

<<1156>> because your immune system starts chewing through vitamin D,

<<1159>> vitamin C, zinc at a rapid rate.

<<1162>> And some of those vitamins we don't have a way to store.

<<1165>> So, for instance, vitamin C,

<<1167>> you don't have a storage place for it in the body.

<<1169>> So, when your immune system starts chewing through it,

<<1172>> you need that extra vitamin C.

<<1173>> So, those On Guard Chewable Tablets, amazing for that.

<<1176>> - Amazing. - Yeah.

<<1177>> - Thank you. - Yeah, of course.

<<1178>> - Thank you for clarifying my doubt.

<<1179>> - Yeah, no problem.

<<1180>> - Okay, next up we have another hugely popular blend.

<<1184>> I'm talking about Air. - Yeah.

<<1186>> - Another popular in combination I would say to On Guard,

<<1189>> especially in this season.

<<1191>> - Yeah. - As you mentioned,

<<1192>> seasonal threats and protection for the immune system.

<<1195>> So, these two for me are a powerful combination.

<<1198>> - Yeah. - How do you

<<1199>> personally use Air?

<<1200>> - So, you need Air for that respiratory support.

<<1203>> The chemistry within Air really helps open up airways.

<<1208>> Remember we talked about Peppermint with its menthol

<<1211>> as a smooth muscle relaxant.

<<1213>> Well, we talked about the GI tract having smooth muscle,

<<1215>> but your respiratory tract

<<1217>> is also surrounded by smooth muscle.

<<1219>> So, that menthol opening up that

<<1221>> and relaxing that smooth muscle

<<1223>> really helps us open up our airways.

<<1225>> We get that feeling of clear breathing.

<<1227>> 1,8-cineole in there as well within the Eucalyptus.

<<1230>> And the Cardamom also does the same thing.

<<1233>> So you've got really powerful chemistry within air

<<1236>> to help support that respiratory tract.

<<1239>> Now, Air was one of the first oils

<<1242>> that we had some interaction with.

<<1244>> - Oh really? - In our dōTERRA journey.

<<1246>> For me, you know, it's interesting as a physician,

<<1248>> I read the literature, and it's interesting.

<<1251>> And it has been a staple

<<1253>> in our home ever since. - Ever since.

<<1254>> - Like, all the time we have Air in our home.

<<1257>> - Yeah. Beautiful. - Yeah.

<<1258>> - Were you still skeptical at that point about oils

<<1260>> or were you already convinced?

<<1261>> - No, no. We had been using other oils within the home.

<<1265>> We'd been doing some other things,

<<1267>> but it was just one of those instances in which

<<1269>> the timing was interesting,

<<1271>> having just read an article earlier that week

<<1273>> about cardamom, eucalyptus and that one chemical compound

<<1277>> and then the challenge arrived.

<<1279>> And I thought, well let's try this.

<<1281>> Let's prove this out

<<1282>> from what the literature said, you know?

<<1285>> Then the experience was like, oh my gosh,

<<1288>> this really is so cool.

<<1290>> So, it was just kind of a reiteration to me

<<1294>> of what I had read that this stuff

<<1296>> really is powerful. - Yeah.

<<1297>> - It really does work. - It is. Yeah.

<<1299>> - And that what we read about is really true.

<<1303>> - Okay, moving on

<<1303>> we have ZenGest. - Yeah.

<<1305>> - So, I know we mentioned some other single oils

<<1308>> that are inside this powerful bottle.

<<1311>> Again, I feel like I've been saying this for many oils,

<<1314>> but ZenGest is an absolute must,

<<1316>> but ZenGest is an absolute must,

<<1317>> especially when I travel, I think.

<<1319>> - Yeah. - Yeah.

<<1320>> It has saved me in many occasions,

<<1323>> very soothing for the stomach, GI tract in general.

<<1327>> There's also compounds within Star Anise and Coriander,

<<1330>> which we both find in ZenGest also,

<<1332>> that actually support a healthy microbiome.

<<1335>> - Oh wow. - So our microbiome

<<1337>> does so many things for us.

<<1338>> We really need to make sure and take good care of it

<<1341>> because of the fact that we're actually, it's really weird,

<<1345>> but we're more microbiome than we are human.

<<1349>> I know that's weird. - We're more microbes

<<1350>> than human, what? - Yes.

<<1351>> There's 35 trillion human cells-

<<1355>> - Oh wow. - In the human body.

<<1357>> There's a hundred trillion microbial cells

<<1360>> in or on the human body. - Oh my goodness.

<<1362>> - So, given that, we ought to be pretty good hosts.

<<1366>> - Yeah. - And then that means

<<1367>> we need to take care of it.

<<1369>> So, those chemical compounds within Star Anise and Coriander

<<1373>> actually help us to have a healthy microbiome

<<1375>> so that it can do its job for us.

<<1377>> So, ZenGest Softgels

<<1379>> is a way to get ZenGest into the GI tract

<<1382>> if you don't like that black licorice taste

<<1384>> from the Star Anise and the Fennel, right.

<<1386>> So, some people are like,

<<1387>> I don't want to take this in water.

<<1388>> I don't, I'm not a fan of it putting in my mouth straight.

<<1391>> So, softgels, great. Go for that, right.

<<1395>> The ZenGest tabs are a calcium carbonate tab.

<<1399>> Really, those are for when you feel that burning in here,

<<1403>> and you're like, I need this to calm down

<<1405>> as opposed to this to calm down.

<<1407>> - Okay. - So, when you're thinking

<<1409>> upper GI tract burning sensation, that's your ZenGest tabs.

<<1413>> When you're thinking lower GI tract discomfort,

<<1417>> that's your either oil

<<1419>> or your softgel. - Softgel. Amazing.

<<1420>> - Yeah. - Thank you.

<<1421>> I think this clarification might be so useful

<<1424>> because so many people- - Good.

<<1426>> - So, thank you for that. - Yes, of course.

<<1428>> - Next up we have a truly special one.

<<1432>> I'm talking about Wild Orange.

<<1434>> And just recently, I might have a little bit

<<1436>> of a story this time. - Yeah.

<<1438>> - I tried to experiment with Wild Orange in the kitchen

<<1441>> and I tried making a granola infused with Wild Orange.

<<1444>> - Oh cool! - And let me tell you,

<<1446>> some of my colleagues have gone absolutely crazy.

<<1449>> So, sometimes when I feel like extra sweet I might take-

<<1454>> - You're always sweet.

<<1455>> - Or I have the time to actually make it.

<<1457>> I might come to the office with a little jar of granola

<<1459>> and say, "Hey, I made granola."

<<1461>> - [Brannick] And it's Wild Orange granola.

<<1462>> - And the recipe's secret.

<<1463>> Yes it is. And chocolate. - That's amazing.

<<1465>> - And chocolate chip. - Chocolate chip,

<<1467>> Wild Orange granola.

<<1469>> So, have I been nice enough

<<1471>> to get some? - I'd say after the episode

<<1472>> I will give you the recipe.

<<1474>> - Okay, thank you. So kind.

<<1476>> - But obviously, cooking with the oils might, you know,

<<1481>> remove those nice benefits because the oil evaporates.

<<1485>> I'm still using it for the taste-

<<1487>> - Yeah. - Benefit.

<<1488>> - Yeah, although if you'll, when you're cooking,

<<1490>> particularly when you're using

<<1491>> our citrus oils in cooking.

<<1496>> - Yeah. - You know,

<<1497>> we get our citrus oils from cold pressing

<<1499>> because heat and steam will change the chemistry of it.

<<1504>> So, if you'll wait until the end of the cooking

<<1507>> to add a citrus oil, A, you're going to get more flavor

<<1510>> from that citrus oil and B,

<<1512>> the chemistry actually remains intact.

<<1513>> - Oh wow. Okay. - As long as that heat

<<1515>> hasn't been applied for too long.

<<1516>> - Okay. - So you might even

<<1518>> consider cooking the granola and then actually

<<1521>> mixing it with- - That's usually what I do.

<<1523>> I cook the granola, I let it cool down for a little bit.

<<1526>> - Yeah, yeah. - Even just five, 10 minutes.

<<1528>> And then I add- - So, then you're still

<<1530>> getting the benefits of the Wild Orange.

<<1531>> - Beautiful. - Yeah.

<<1533>> So, if you're saving it for the end of cooking,

<<1535>> it's a great time to add your citrus oils.

<<1537>> The other way we love to use citrus oils in our home

<<1539>> is when we're doing salad dressings.

<<1541>> Right. - Yeah.

<<1542>> - So, you can olive oil and citrus oil.

<<1543>> - Beautiful. - And then a balsamic vinegar

<<1545>> is a great way to have a very, you know,

<<1548>> a varied type of salad dressing.

<<1551>> 'Cause you use your Grapefruit

<<1552>> or one time you can use your Lemon

<<1554>> or your Wild Orange-

<<1555>> - You can get so creative. - Tangerine.

<<1555>> - Yeah. - Right. So many of them.

<<1557>> - Beautiful. - Yep.

<<1558>> - In terms of chemical compounds,

<<1560>> do we have limonene in Wild Orange?

<<1561>> - D-limone, that's really the major chemical compound there.

<<1564>> We've talked about with Lemon

<<1565>> all of the effects of D-limonene, you know, super helpful.

<<1569>> Again with Wild Orange using it topically, it's fine.

<<1573>> Just be aware- - Be aware.

<<1575>> - Sun exposure. - Yeah.

<<1575>> - Yeah. - With Wild Orange

<<1577>> I also love the fact that it has a

<<1579>> sort of like mood boosting.

<<1581>> Instantly makes me happy.

<<1583>> - Yeah, which is actually a benefit of limonene. Right?

<<1586>> - Oh wow. Okay.

<<1587>> - When we're diffusing limonene,

<<1588>> it actually is this kind of uplifting scent to us

<<1592>> and we actually do feel better, more relaxed,

<<1595>> more happy, et cetera.

<<1596>> I was at a medical conference several years ago

<<1599>> and this was in southern Arizona

<<1602>> and the room that they put me in was on the second floor.

<<1605>> It was right next to an orange orchard.

<<1608>> And as I opened the patio door to the room I was in,

<<1613>> discovered that the orange orchard was in bloom.

<<1616>> So, all of that amazing smell of those orange blossoms.

<<1620>> - [Ludo] I'm dreaming about that.

<<1621>> - And the citrus was just so powerful.

<<1624>> For the week that I was at the conference,

<<1626>> that door was open every night.

<<1629>> - I bet. - Because that smell

<<1630>> was just so powerful for us. - It's just so beautiful.

<<1633>> - Yeah. - And then the last oil

<<1635>> we're going to talk about today is Copaiba, Copaiba.

<<1637>> I never know which way to pronounce it.

<<1638>> - Because it depends upon, you know,

<<1640>> where you live in the world.

<<1642>> Sometimes I'm in trouble for Copaiba,

<<1644>> sometimes I'm in trouble for Copaiba.

<<1646>> So, I don't know which one is right.

<<1647>> - I think you're pretty neutral. But yeah.

<<1649>> - Spain, does Spain prefer, we're in Spain right now-

<<1652>> - We're in Spain. - Recording, so.

<<1653>> - I think Copaiba probably

<<1655>> is the preferred. - Yeah, I think probably.

<<1656>> - Yeah. - Yeah. The last one.

<<1657>> - We're going to go with Copaiba.

<<1658>> - Yep. - I think it's

<<1661>> a chemical component.

<<1663>> It's powerhouse in terms of benefit.

<<1665>> - Would you apply topically in that way or?

<<1667>> - Actually they're using it internally.

<<1669>> - Oh, interesting. - Right, in a softgel

<<1670>> or just putting some in water.

<<1672>> I don't mind the taste of Copaiba

<<1674>> because it tastes a little smoky to me

<<1677>> and a little bit woody.

<<1679>> And so, I really like that taste.

<<1681>> Other people don't like it,

<<1682>> so the softgels are great for them.

<<1684>> So, it's actually great at supporting

<<1687>> that healthy inflammatory response.

<<1688>> - That's beautiful. - Yeah.

<<1690>> - Thank you Brannick.

<<1691>> I feel like we could talk for hours on end on any product,

<<1695>> any oils. - It's so fun. I love it.

<<1697>> - And every time I wish I could have you here longer.

<<1700>> Can you just move to Europe please?

<<1701>> - Sure. You just check with Julie, my wife.

<<1703>> I'm sure she'll be fine with it.

<<1705>> We'll just move on. - You can all move to Europe.

<<1706>> - That'd be fine. - Little bit.

<<1708>> But yeah, in all honesty, thank you Brannick.

<<1710>> I feel like it's a real honour and pleasure

<<1713>> to talk to you every time. - Thank you.

<<1715>> - The education that you give me personally,

<<1718>> but our listeners as well is invaluable.

<<1720>> So, yeah. Please.

<<1722>> Let's keep going. Let's keep doing this.

<<1724>> - Sounds great. Love it.

<<1725>> Just invite me back anytime.

<<1727>> Would love to continue the conversation.

<<1728>> - Absolutely. - And there's so much

<<1730>> for us to learn.

<<1730>> There's so much new information that's coming out.

<<1733>> So, it's really fun. - It's amazing.

<<1733>> - Thank you so much for being on the podcast, Brannick.

<<1735>> - Thank you Ludo. Appreciate it.

<<1737>> - Thank you so much for listening to today's episode.

<<1740>> I hope you enjoyed it.

<<1741>> If you did, please make sure to subscribe

<<1744>> so you never miss an episode,
