<<2>> - [Narrator] Sanaag is a remote region

<<4>> in the northern part of Somaliland.

<<7>> (slow dramatic music)

<<11>> This region plays a crucial role

<<13>> in the global frankincense supply chain.

<<16>> (slow dramatic music)

<<21>> Because of limited access and medical resources,

<<24>> it suffers from some of the highest maternal and child mortality rates in the world.

<<30>> - Our plumber told me a story about taking the bus

<<33>> from Erigavo to Hargeisa a couple of weeks ago.

<<37>> And there was a mother in the seat directly behind him

<<41>> with a small child.

<<43>> And currently, if you have any major health emergencies,

<<48>> your only option is to drive all the way to Hargeisa,

<<52>> which is 12 hours.

<<53>> And tragically on this bus ride,

<<57>> this poor mother had a very sick child

<<59>> and the child died on the road to Hargeisa

<<64>> with this mother trying to get some help.

<<67>> (slow dramatic music)

<<73>> We're headed to meet some of the women from the community,

<<77>> some of the mothers,

<<80>> and the head nurse at the local hospital.

<<89>> - [Narrator] The mothers in these communities

<<91>> desired better access to healthcare above anything else.

<<96>> The hospital this community so desperately needed,

<<98>> is finally becoming a reality,

<<101>> through the generous donations

<<102>> to the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation

<<104>> and more than three years of tireless work.

<<107>> (uplifting piano music)

<<131>> We really need healthcare and this hospital can help Erigavo and the Sangaar region a lot

<<141>> I have lived here all my life and this hospital means a lot because we need it so much.

<<146>> It will help solve so many of the problems in the community.

<<155>> - There's so many things that are inside the hospital.

<<156>> I never expected to see them.

<<158>> With all the facilities that are basically in most

<<161>> of the major hospitals that you'll find,

<<163>> maybe across the African continent.

<<166>> We have accident emergency department.

<<169>> We also have a maternity services,

<<172>> nursery within the maternity.

<<174>> we're going to incubate some babies,

<<176>> that maybe the preterm babies that are going to be born.

<<179>> We also have an operational theater.

<<181>> We also have pediatrics,

<<183>> and we have a well-equipped pharmacy

<<185>> with modern medicine that is going

<<188>> to benefit the community a lot.

<<191>> - A lot of premature babies to date in the region

<<193>> have not made it.

<<195>> Whereas now, they have a greater chance of success.

<<199>> We have been waiting so long to have a hospital like this and that day is finally here.
