<<6>> Hi, I'm Dr Brannick Riggs,
<<8>> Vice President of Education at dōTERRA International,
<<10>> and I'm here with Dr Fernando Guerra,
<<12>> and we're going to talk about MetaPWR Recharge today.
<<16>> So, Fernando, in your profession as an ER physician,
<<18>> you often deal with athletes.
<<20>> Can you tell us what happens
<<22>> when those athletes are exercising?
<<24>> When the human body is exercising, what's going on?
<<27>> - So you increase your movement, so your heartbeat increases.
<<32>> So with time,
<<33>> depending on the amount of exercise that you do,
<<36>> you can sweat more, you can increase your breathing,
<<41>> you can increase your heart rate.
<<43>> So all of your body is in constant production of heat,
<<48>> so you sweat more.
<<50>> So with that, you can lose water,
<<53>> and you can lose other types of minerals.
<<55>> - Yeah, so when we're sweating,
<<56>> we lose electrolytes, we lose water,
<<60>> and when we're exercising then,
<<62>> that kind of brings on the sweat
<<63>> for various reasons, correct?
<<65>> That increased respiratory rate, the increased heart rate,
<<69>> muscles are burning fuel, right?
<<72>> Which also then causes heat inside the body,
<<75>> and then that's kind of where we get that sweat from.
<<77>> - Yeah.
<<78>> So when we're sweating,
<<81>> what's happening to the body temperature?
<<82>> Why are we sweating?
<<83>> What's going on there with the body temperature?
<<85>> - So the sweating is a mechanism for the body
<<89>> to decrease the temperature.
<<91>> So it's a cooling system that naturally we have.
<<95>> And we lose water,
<<97>> but losing water also makes us lose lots of metabolites,
<<102>> like minerals, like sodium and chloride and others.
<<107>> That's why sometimes when you can taste the sweat,
<<110>> it's salty.
<<111>> So that could unbalance the body.
<<114>> - And so when we're sweating,
<<116>> can we just drink water to replace that?
<<119>> Or do we need something more?
<<120>> You can drink water, but it's more important and
<<122>> more efficient if you drink other type of minerals.
<<126>> Because you lose minerals,
<<127>> you need to put them again in your body.
<<130>> - Yeah
<<131>> In fact, there's some medical literature out there
<<133>> of overhydration of athletes, right?
<<136>> And it causes some problems
<<137>> because they do get an imbalance of electrolytes
<<140>> and that wreaks havoc on the muscles of their body,
<<143>> including the heart, which is a muscle.
<<146>> So if we are just drinking water by itself,
<<149>> while water is good for us, it can
<<151>> in the right amounts, cause problems for us.
<<153>> So what do those electrolytes do for us in our body?
<<156>> So those electrolytes are very important
<<159>> in every function in the body.
<<162>> So the nervous system needs all the minerals,
<<166>> especially the chloride and the sodium, to work out and
<<169>> to make the transmission of the signals.
<<172>> The muscles need all the calcium and the potassium,
<<174>> so if you lose them, your muscles and your nervous system
<<178>> will not work as properly.
<<180>> - Yeah.
<<181>> So we need potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium.
<<185>> There's a number of things that we're needing to function.
<<189>> So can the new MetaPWR Recharge help us?
<<191>> - Definitely. It can help us,
<<193>> of course, with the water that we take
<<196>> with the Recharge,
<<197>> it can give us all the minerals that we need.
<<199>> And there's a lot of literature that says
<<201>> that those minerals, with the adequate level of hydration,
<<206>> can give us the best recovery if you're doing exercise,
<<210>> because you can do exercise for 30 minutes,
<<212>> but it's different than running a marathon.
<<215>> It's completely different.
<<216>> The weight of the loss of water, the loss of minerals
<<219>> is completely different.
<<220>> And many studies reflect the amount of
<<223>> sweat that athletes lose.
<<225>> So Recharge can really help,
<<228>> if you choose exercise that gives you more sweat
<<232>> and gives you more loss of heat, then it helps you a lot.
<<236>> - Yeah, there's lots of products on the market today
<<239>> that are for this specific issue.
<<243>> But what makes the dōTERRA Recharge product unique from
<<247>> some of those other products that are out there?
<<249>> - What I like to mention is there's no sugar in it.
<<254>> Yeah, that's fantastic, isn't it?
<<255>> Yeah, it is fantastic,
<<258>> because you prep the MetaPWR Recharge with water,
<<263>> with the electrolytes concentration that we have there.
<<265>> And we take what we need, and we don't need that much sugar.
<<269>> We have tons of reserves.
<<271>> - Yeah.
<<272>> It's important to have a diet
<<274>> that is adequate and good for yourself,
<<277>> and if you do have a nice hydration,
<<280>> but also if you take the Recharge when you need it,
<<283>> I think you're doing a great job.
<<285>> - Yeah, it's interesting.
<<286>> This also doesn't come as a powder.
<<289>> A lot of those electrolyte drinks out there
<<291>> come as a powder. This comes as a slurry
<<293>> that really you need to mix with water.
<<295>> I think that's an important point that you bring up.
<<297>> And the fact that I have heard of people
<<301>> that just take the powder inside,
<<303>> which is so much of those electrolytes without the water
<<307>> that's also needed there.
<<309>> So as we mix this slurry with water,
<<312>> as you see here on the table before us,
<<313>> it really helps us with the hydration
<<315>> and those electrolytes.
<<316>> Another thing that is important,
<<318>> people sometimes don't drink enough water.
<<321>> And if you do use Recharge,
<<325>> that requires use of half a litre of water for each package,
<<329>> it is enough for you to get your adequate hydration.
<<333>> - And there's some science out there that indicates
<<335>> that when we drink water with electrolytes,
<<337>> we absorb more of the water,
<<339>> we're able to utilise more of the water,
<<341>> than if we were to not drink it with the electrolytes.
<<343>> So it actually helps us a little bit more.
<<345>> So, Dr Guerra,
<<346>> when and how would you recommend using the product?
<<350>> So I recommend using MetaPWR Recharge
<<353>> when you do an exercise over 30 minutes.
<<355>> You sweat a lot,
<<356>> or you’re producing energy is higher.
<<359>> But also because of the components inside, it can help
<<363>> for instance, with the process of dehydration.
<<366>> It can help you because all the sodium and the potassium
<<369>> inside MetaPWR Recharge can help you,
<<373>> for instance, when you have a person that is vomiting.
<<377>> When you start with retaking fluids,
<<379>> you can start slowly with Recharge and it will help you,
<<383>> having not only the water,
<<385>> but also the minerals that you need.
<<386>> So anytime that we're losing lots of fluid,
<<389>> we need to replace it
<<390>> with something like this.
<<391>> I would also mention that we recommend typically,
<<394>> as physicians, that people are getting 30+ minutes,
<<397>> at least five days a week.
<<398>> So that's going to be at least five times a week
<<401>> that you're using the product.
<<402>> But in addition to that,
<<403>> there's this thing called NEAT exercise,
<<405>> which is exercise that we do on a fairly frequent basis
<<408>> that we wouldn't consider 'time to go exercise'.
<<412>> Mowing the lawn, right? Working in our garden.
<<415>> Those are times that we're exercising,
<<417>> but we may not consider it like going to the gym.
<<420>> Those might also be times where we're sweating a lot,
<<422>> we're doing a lot of work.
<<424>> Even if you are doing some, not exercise,
<<427>> but work every day,
<<428>> where you are sweating a little more,
<<430>> you're losing a little water more than normal,
<<432>> you can in fact use MetaPWR Recharge
<<435>> because you will take more water
<<437>> and use this product to input more minerals.
<<440>> - So Fernando, is this product vegan-friendly, gluten-free,
<<445>> and free from sugar and artificial sweeteners?
<<448>> - Completely.
<<449>> It's fantastic.
<<450>> - Yeah, that's great.
<<451>> I love the MetaPWR Recharge product
<<453>> because of the fact that when I drink it,
<<456>> I feel like I'm not drinking an artificially sweet
<<459>> or super sugary drink, which is fantastic.
<<463>> I really do taste the electrolytes in it.
<<465>> What I have found is that when I need the product,
<<468>> when my system has lost a lot of sweat and electrolytes,
<<471>> it tastes really good,
<<473>> because my body's craving those things, right?
<<475>> And when I don't need it,
<<478>> then I'm going to taste that it's a little bit more salty.
<<480>> Because the body's saying 'maybe I don't need this as much',
<<483>> and so that's kind of an indicator for me
<<485>> of when I'm really needing the product and when I don't.
<<487>> But I certainly have been using this a ton
<<489>> and love our MetaPWR Recharge product,
<<492>> and would certainly recommend it to those of us
<<494>> that are out there moving more, and engaging in life.
<<498>> This is a fabulous product.
<<500>> So thank you for your time today, Dr Guerra.
<<501>> - Thank you.
