<<17>> before refugee crisis

<<19>> i'm a fisherman i have a fish shop and

<<22>> fishing with my boat but

<<24>> same time we had a little traditional

<<26>> restaurant we start in our kitchen to

<<29>> make the first thousand or two thousand

<<31>> portions when the people arrived here

<<33>> and we had only two pots to cook we

<<36>> still have those as a souvenir

<<39>> it was very difficult

<<42>> now it's completely different we have a

<<44>> lot of equipments new

<<46>> many of those

<<48>> doterra help us and we bought

<<51>> there was a period that we had 27 000

<<54>> people

<<55>> in maurya cam and for those that they

<<58>> don't know what is moria cup

<<60>> it was an army camp before that made for

<<63>> 1 800 people

<<65>> at that time you need to give food

<<68>> because you have to cover the number one

<<71>> and two necessities like food water and

<<74>> somewhere to sleep

<<76>> but

<<76>> when the people are

<<79>> becoming less

<<80>> and especially those that they get

<<82>> asylum but they have no place to go

<<85>> even them they need more than anything

<<87>> else to start their life this is why

<<90>> they came here

<<91>> so then we thought okay

<<93>> the best thing we can do

<<96>> is to give them jobs

<<106>> it's interesting to be back in in camp

<<108>> moria it's almost been two years since

<<110>> this burned down

<<112>> six years ago it seemed hopeless and

<<115>> overwhelming but we just started we just

<<118>> started somewhere it was buzzing with

<<121>> life when we came in and helped

<<123>> distribute food and and this is where

<<126>> they had a hope to go to

<<129>> the other camp that we were involved in

<<131>> that was cara tepe but they first had to

<<134>> come here everybody had to come here

<<135>> first yeah and it's kind of

<<138>> overwhelming to come back and see nobody

<<154>> after the fire that took place in moria

<<156>> there was nothing but just tents on soil

<<159>> and a lot of water because it was pretty

<<161>> much an ugly time of the year

<<163>> we already experienced that the

<<165>> education piece in the camp was very

<<168>> limited so when children had to be

<<170>> educated some parents said okay we leave

<<173>> our tents

<<174>> and when our tents are empty they had to

<<176>> you know put the stuff aside the

<<177>> mattresses and everything and then the

<<179>> kids could come in and the teachers

<<180>> could come in in a tent think about it

<<182>> and sometimes it was cold sometimes this

<<184>> was rainy so the kids didn't show up it

<<187>> didn't really work well we've been there

<<189>> this morning and it's like a tremendous

<<191>> change there's four iso boxes it's got

<<193>> air conditioning in it it has a nice

<<195>> floor it's basically all year round they

<<197>> can be taught

<<198>> and for teachers it's nice but also for

<<201>> the children they can go in anytime it's

<<203>> safe it's really a chill place to get

<<205>> educated

<<228>> community center which really was the

<<230>> pinnacle of what we did here

<<232>> with doterra and healing hands it's so

<<235>> amazing because i mean literally this is

<<237>> where it all began remember we came here

<<239>> and helped out with food distribution

<<241>> making you know preparing everything in

<<243>> the morning for the breakfast

<<244>> distribution

<<245>> all the children playing football soccer

<<248>> here playing basketball there and when

<<250>> this community center was built we came

<<252>> back for the grand opening it was a

<<254>> party and and we had little little

<<257>> cream-filled donuts in the children's

<<259>> eyes to see the joy then the excitement

<<262>> you know it's it's you know there's no

<<265>> better payment really it was just

<<267>> thrilling

<<273>> and i remember emily wright came here in

<<276>> of 2017. i remember jurgen she was

<<280>> okay this is a start but it's only a

<<283>> start we've got to do so much more like

<<285>> how do we help these people

<<288>> uh get jobs get opportunities seek

<<290>> asylum you know move on with their lives

<<293>> those words from emily are ringing in my

<<295>> ears like it's just a start

<<326>> it's going to be a part of a garden

<<329>> a place of gathering

<<332>> people can visit refugees also very soon

<<335>> can visit this place and spend the day

<<339>> area belongs to home for all it's our

<<341>> property we buy the land and we did this

<<345>> because we want really to invest and do

<<348>> things that they are going to stay

<<350>> vegetables fruits herbs we have some

<<354>> animals

<<358>> we have a team now of refugees and

<<360>> greeks

<<362>> that from the first day

<<364>> they became like a family

<<366>> and they work so good together they also

<<369>> laughing and have fun and enjoy what

<<371>> they do

<<373>> i'm happy

<<375>> i'm really happy and i think

<<379>> i'm very very lucky

<<389>> to stay here forever

<<399>> the old building that you see here we

<<401>> make a request and we're waiting for the

<<403>> permission to bring it down

<<405>> and move here our kitchen this is going

<<408>> to be our terrace

<<410>> this is our olive yard yes we have until

<<413>> now about 200 trees

<<416>> hopefully this winter we will start to

<<418>> collect some yeah we are ready to

<<420>> collect olives

<<422>> we are ready to bottle

<<424>> we are ready to sell we are ready to

<<426>> employ more people employ more people

<<430>> meeting nikos and katarina

<<433>> and seeing you know like passion that

<<435>> they have just to help

<<436>> refugees

<<438>> is uh is really inspiring and it's

<<442>> it's almost a perfect example of what

<<443>> doterra is all about they just came here

<<445>> a couple months ago and they've already

<<447>> built out this incredible land and

<<450>> they've cleared it and i think it's

<<452>> going to go

<<453>> go in a big way i think you can see

<<456>> behind me here this tractor that we

<<457>> bought which basically made this all

<<459>> possible for them

<<461>> that was all purchased with

<<462>> contributions from wellness advocates

<<465>> and

<<466>> what doterra is trying to do is to

<<468>> continue to build this effort here you

<<470>> know i think there's good reason to

<<472>> believe there'll be refugees on the

<<474>> island or coming to the island for the

<<476>> foreseeable future and nicos and

<<479>> katarina are just going to be here to

<<480>> help them and with our support not

<<482>> solely our support but with doterra's

<<484>> support i think they'll

<<486>> you know be able to really help a lot of

<<488>> people

<<494>> things change

<<496>> from year to year

<<499>> many times we say that we follow the

<<502>> and at least we try to do this we

<<506>> continue with our kitchen

<<508>> giving food in the camp and to people

<<511>> outside in centers

<<514>> it's time for the people to get

<<517>> something more it's better if we can

<<520>> find a way for them to earn their living

<<524>> and like that they feel safer they're

<<527>> happier they have

<<529>> their dignity

<<531>> smiling people happy kids
