<<0>> - Hello there. My name is Dr. Ruth Dempsey.
<<2>> I am a PhD scientist, a toxicologist in training,
<<6>> and I have worked all my life, for the last 30 plus years,
<<10>> in industry in research and development,
<<12>> and I specialise in the science of lifestyle choices,
<<16>> helping, particularly, people to make
<<18>> the right lifestyle choices for them based
<<21>> on the best science.
<<23>> I recently started my own company,
<<25>> advising friends, family, companies, and professionals
<<31>> as well as governments on how to do exactly that.
<<35>> I was first introduced to doTERRA
<<37>> by my daughter about two years ago,
<<40>> and I immediately loved the oils.
<<43>> I thought there was something different
<<45>> about these particular essential oils,
<<48>> but I was a little bit cynical about the company itself,
<<51>> but the more I looked into it,
<<52>> the more I talked to my daughter,
<<53>> the more I asked questions and looked into it,
<<55>> the more impressed I became by it,
<<58>> and in particular, by their attitude
<<60>> towards the quality of the products
<<63>> and the science of the products itself.
<<65>> The more I found out about the company,
<<67>> the more I've loved it.
<<69>> They have an attitude about quality.
<<71>> They have an attitude about caring,
<<74>> making a difference in the world
<<75>> and, of course, about following the best science,
<<78>> and I think that is really what made me want
<<81>> to be a part of it.
<<84>> So I contacted them, and I'm delighted.
<<86>> As of last year,
<<89>> I have been a member of the newly-created
<<93>> European Scientific and Medical Education Council,
<<97>> where I can bring my skills understanding science
<<100>> to help you and everybody to make better choices
<<104>> for your lifestyle based on the most recent science,
<<107>> and I think one of the products that most epitomises
<<110>> that is doTERRA's Lifelong Vitality Complex,
<<114>> and that's what I'd like to talk to you about now.
<<117>> So the first thing that I thought about this was,
<<119>> well, why supplement?
<<123>> I'd always liked to believe
<<124>> that a good diet was all that one needed,
<<128>> that if you ate well and you ate your greens
<<131>> and your five a day that you would get all
<<133>> the nutritional supplements that you want.
<<135>> I've taken vitamins A, C and D at times,
<<138>> and I've taken vitamin B complex at times
<<140>> to support particular times in my life,
<<142>> but I've never really been pro-supplements,
<<145>> but when I started looking into it
<<147>> and looking into the science behind it,
<<149>> I realised that nowadays with the pressures
<<153>> that there are on farming, on intensive farming
<<155>> and the fact that we move our foods
<<158>> around the world over a huge distances
<<160>> and put them into storage for huge periods of time,
<<163>> the levels of pollutions that there are around
<<165>> and the depletion of the soil means that foods nowadays,
<<170>> even if you have a healthy diet,
<<171>> don't necessarily offer you all
<<173>> of the micronutrients at the levels that you need
<<176>> and in fact, there is a growing concern
<<179>> about nutrient deficiencies
<<182>> in most countries worldwide, nowadays,
<<186>> and so, yes, I think a healthy diet is fundamental,
<<191>> but I realise now that supplementing it
<<194>> with good, wholesome food micronutrients
<<198>> is extremely beneficial, and what I love
<<202>> about the doTERRA Lifelong Vitality Pack is
<<205>> they have really looked at the latest science,
<<208>> the combinations and the doses and the presence
<<210>> of all of the main elements that we need
<<213>> to help to support vitality are all there in the pack.
<<219>> There are three main components to this.
<<221>> They've broken it down into three different packages.
<<225>> The composition of each one is very delicately balanced
<<227>> in order to deal with the specific aspect
<<230>> of the nutritional needs that we require.
<<233>> So let's start with the Microplex VMz.
<<237>> This is a multivitamin, a multivitamin
<<240>> just like many other multivitamins, except, of course,
<<243>> that this one offers just the right balance
<<246>> of the vitamins that we will need.
<<248>> It also has a lovely combination of things like zinc
<<252>> and selenium and iron and the minerals that are present
<<255>> and instantly in Europe, it's very, very difficult
<<257>> to have the levels of selenium that one needs in the diet
<<260>> because of the lack of selenium
<<262>> in the soils in most European areas.
<<264>> One of the things that I loved about the package
<<266>> that doTERRA put together is they've dealt
<<268>> with one of the most difficult aspects
<<270>> of vitamin supplements that you see in the aisles
<<273>> in general is that they've dealt with the bioavailability.
<<277>> Just putting vitamin C into a capsule isn't going
<<280>> to, necessarily, give you the vitamin C that you need.
<<283>> In order to do that, what they've done is prepared it
<<286>> in a way, in the whole food basis,
<<288>> so that the body recognises it as a nutrient
<<290>> and absorbs it in the best possible way.
<<293>> This will make a huge difference to the availability
<<296>> of the product and to how you can absorb it
<<299>> and use it by the body itself.
<<301>> So the next product that I would like to talk
<<303>> about is the xEO Mega product,
<<305>> and this is, of course, the product
<<306>> that offers the omega-3s.
<<309>> Now, the omega-3s, and many other things as well,
<<312>> but these are the polyunsaturated fatty acids,
<<315>> also known as the PUFAs.
<<317>> These are essential to many, many parts
<<319>> of the cell makeup within the body itself
<<322>> and, particularly, with the immune response
<<324>> and with inflammation,
<<326>> but the human body needs a balance
<<329>> of omega-3 and omega-6.
<<332>> We don't have any trouble getting omega-6s
<<334>> in our diet in general, but the omega-3s can be very,
<<337>> very difficult to get, and so omega-3 supplementation
<<340>> has become a very important part of getting
<<343>> the right nutrients that we get.
<<345>> This particular omega-3 comes from fish oils,
<<349>> This particular omega-3 comes from fish oils,
<<349>> and also from algae.
<<351>> There is a vegan offering for the xEO Mega,
<<354>> which has an algae-based omega-3s,
<<357>> and they are also supplemented with a range of vitamins.
<<361>> There is a fair amount of science that suggests that
<<365>> vitamin D, for example, and the omega-3s
<<368>> can work together for some of the anti-inflammatory effects
<<371>> that they can have in the cell basis.
<<374>> In addition to that, it has a lovely dose
<<376>> of the astaxanthin which is
<<379>> a very highly powerful antioxidant in there,
<<384>> and a nice combination of essential oils,
<<387>> which both help to boost the antioxidant power up here,
<<391>> but they also help to preserve the fish oils
<<395>> and stop it from going rancid within the cells itself.
<<398>> So that's a very interesting package that comes through,
<<400>> and the last of the three is really
<<402>> the doTERRA's proprietary blend of botanicals
<<407>> in their Alpha CRS+
<<410>> which is a cellular support system,
<<412>> and these are quite simply a powerhouse
<<415>> of antioxidants and plant polyphenols,
<<417>> which provide the protection
<<419>> that the body needs in order to support many
<<423>> of the main systems within the cells,
<<426>> and, particularly, with producing energy,
<<428>> antioxidant status within the cells itself,
<<431>> anti-inflammatory status within the cells itself.
<<434>> The Alpha CRS+ also has elements in there which help
<<437>> to support mitochondrial function.
<<439>> So to give you more energy,
<<441>> and it also includes a blend of co-factors,
<<444>> such as a coenzyme Q10, alpha-lipoic acid
<<448>> and acetyl-L-carnitine,
<<450>> and, of course, it has Ginkgo biloba,
<<452>> which there's a fair amount of science coming out
<<455>> these days about the support that Ginkgo biloba has
<<458>> and extracts on the central nervous system
<<461>> and neural systems.
<<464>> So, individually, each of these are lovely.
<<466>> what I love about this combination is that there are more
<<470>> and more scientific evidence coming out
<<472>> about particular combinations, vitamin D and one
<<476>> of the omega-3s, the DHA in omega-3,
<<480>> are known to work synergistically together
<<482>> to help with immune support.
<<484>> Similarly, with Quercetin and the omega-3s
<<488>> have been shown to work very well together.
<<490>> So in combining these three elements,
<<492>> you also get positive elements in those combinations,
<<496>> and so, individually, the science of each
<<499>> of these components clearly make sense
<<501>> but not just looking at the science,
<<503>> doTERRA has actually done some clinical studies itself,
<<507>> and this was one of the things that blew me away
<<509>> about doTERRA when I was going through that "I wonder if."
<<513>> They have started to do a number of clinical studies.
<<517>> Back in 2017, they published a clinical study
<<520>> for the first time on their LLV components.
<<524>> Now, this is a relatively small study,
<<526>> and it's only a pilot study, and it's only for two months
<<528>> but even under those circumstances,
<<530>> when they've asked people within the study itself,
<<534>> the only change they made was to take LLV
<<537>> for a two months period,
<<539>> and they measured a pretty wide range,
<<541>> I think around about 14 different combinations
<<544>> of things that were measures
<<546>> of cardiovascular health, for example,
<<549>> and they found a significant improvement in many of those,
<<554>> just in that two month period.
<<556>> In addition, they also looked
<<558>> at subjective improvements there,
<<560>> and in many ways, I think this is, perhaps,
<<562>> the most important element is that
<<564>> they found a significant improvement in many
<<567>> of the subjective feelings of mood
<<570>> and wellbeing and health within those people themselves,
<<575>> and we know this because we know,
<<576>> whenever we talk to people, how much they enjoy taking LLV,
<<580>> and what a difference it makes them feel like,
<<582>> but it's lovely to see it
<<583>> in a controlled scientific experiment.
<<586>> So in short, these supplements do seem to make a difference.
<<589>> And finally, having gone through
<<592>> all these things that one can do.
<<594>> I just want to say that I, personally,
<<597>> think the LLVs have made a huge difference for me.
<<599>> They make me feel much, much better.
<<601>> I feel much more comfortable
<<602>> about the diet that I'm having right now,
<<604>> but I still maintain.
<<605>> There's a few things that one has to do.
<<607>> One has to have a healthy diet.
<<609>> I would thoroughly encourage you
<<611>> to eat more locally-derived foods,
<<614>> fresher foods, as much as you can
<<616>> because that's the best way
<<617>> to get the nutrients that you can out of it.
<<620>> I, also, would encourage you to drink
<<622>> as much water as you possibly can.
<<624>> Yes, I know it's possible to drink too much water,
<<627>> but it's very unlikely that you will.
<<629>> Two to three litres a day is a hard target to get to,
<<633>> but if you can get to that in a daily basis,
<<635>> it will make a difference to how your body can process foods
<<638>> and provide many other functions as well,
<<641>> and the last thing I would like to recommend
<<642>> to you, of course, is for you to take your LLV,
<<645>> your Lifelong Vitality Complex,
<<648>> and I recommend that you take it
<<649>> at a regular time each day, whichever time suits you.
<<653>> I do recommend that you take it with a meal, if you can,
<<656>> because it does help with the absorption,
<<658>> and it also helps with the functionality
<<660>> of some of those elements within there,
<<662>> but the most important thing is
<<664>> to find a time that you know you will remember
<<666>> to take them because that's how it will make a difference.
<<669>> Thank you.
