<<5>> Hi, I am Ruth Dempsey.
<<7>> I am a PhD scientist
<<9>> and a member of dōTERRA's European Scientific
<<12>> and Medical Education Committee.
<<14>> I am passionate about educating people
<<16>> on their best lifestyles
<<18>> based on the most appropriate scientific research.
<<22>> This is obviously why dōTERRA's research
<<24>> is always really important to me.
<<27>> Through the past few years of learning
<<28>> about all the scientific research doTERRA carries out
<<31>> and in meeting more and more of their scientists
<<34>> and their research partners, I have learned to trust
<<37>> that they will always bring to market the best products
<<39>> that science and technology can provide.
<<43>> So obviously, when dōTERRA first told me
<<46>> about their new MetaPWR product line,
<<48>> I had a pretty strong feeling
<<49>> that this was going to be something special.
<<52>> And quite frankly, it is.
<<55>> Now I should give you full disclosure at this point.
<<58>> I am not a medical doctor
<<60>> and I am not an expert in metabolic health.
<<62>> Indeed, when I first heard about these products,
<<64>> I had to do a fair amount of catch-up reading myself
<<67>> to refresh my knowledge on metabolic pathways
<<70>> and the impact they may have on health.
<<73>> However, having worked in tobacco research
<<75>> for over 30 years,
<<77>> I do know a lot about lifespan, healthspan,
<<81>> and what is often referred to as DALYs,
<<84>> or disability adjusted life years.
<<88>> So let's start there.
<<90>> Now bear with me.
<<91>> It is connected and all will become clear.
<<94>> So let's take a brief look
<<97>> at lifespan and health span in Europe.
<<101>> The latest available statistics
<<103>> in Europe tell us that in 2020,
<<106>> the number of healthy life years at birth
<<109>> was estimated at 64.5 years for women
<<112>> and 63.5 years for men.
<<115>> Now that sounds okay at first glance.
<<117>> But when you realise
<<119>> that the actual life expectancy is considerably longer,
<<122>> at 83.2 years for women and 77.5 years for men,
<<127>> what does that mean?
<<129>> That means that, on average,
<<132>> only about 80% of a European's life is fully healthy,
<<138>> i.e., without health limitations
<<139>> or what they call disability-free.
<<142>> Comparing this to another statistic,
<<144>> indicating that only around 20% of Europeans
<<148>> are metabolically healthy,
<<150>> much of those limited years seem to come
<<153>> from an age-associated decline in metabolic health.
<<157>> Although we could argue
<<158>> that this is a natural consequence of ageing, the truth is
<<162>> that we know that there are lots of things that we can
<<165>> and should do in our daily lives
<<167>> to improve or protect our metabolic health
<<171>> and to decrease that portion of our lifespan
<<173>> that is limited by health issues.
<<177>> Exercising more, eating well, reducing stress,
<<181>> being surrounded by supportive communities
<<183>> are amongst the most prominently researched contributors.
<<187>> The scientific research on the benefits
<<189>> of healthy exercise routines are prolific.
<<193>> Though some of the research in the past
<<194>> has emphasised somewhat daunting targets for exercise,
<<197>> such as one hour of intensive cardiopulmonary exercise
<<200>> three times a week, et cetera,
<<202>> it is quite a relief to me and I suspect many others
<<205>> that more recent research shows the biggest benefits come
<<209>> from rather modest changes.
<<211>> I think the key here is to find an exercise routine
<<213>> that you can maintain.
<<215>> Almost all of us could benefit from moving more
<<219>> and from finding healthy exercise routines that suit us.
<<222>> And of course, there are many dōTERRA oils and products,
<<226>> such as the Deep Blue range, Air,
<<228>> Peppermint amongst others,
<<229>> that can help support your choice of healthy exercise.
<<233>> Reducing stress is also imperative,
<<236>> though admittedly again,
<<237>> not so easy to control for many of us.
<<240>> However, a lot of research these days
<<242>> shows how mindfulness practices, meditations, and breath work
<<246>> can have positive impact on health in general,
<<248>> including getting a good night's sleep,
<<251>> which is also part of reducing stress
<<253>> and very important for maintaining good health.
<<257>> And again, of course,
<<258>> there are many of dōTERRA' essential oils
<<260>> that can support you in all of these practices.
<<262>> Now when it comes to healthy relationships,
<<264>> many people are surprised that I include these in the list.
<<268>> But you would be amazed at some of the research
<<271>> on the longest-lived communities in the world,
<<274>> the so-called Blue Zones.
<<277>> These are populations in the world
<<279>> who have the largest proportion of centenarians,
<<282>> that is people living to a hundred years or more.
<<285>> Many of these communities
<<286>> have flummoxed scientists for years,
<<288>> and there was no obvious reason
<<290>> for their extended longevity.
<<292>> But one of the common themes in all of these areas
<<295>> has been the strength of the community
<<297>> and the relationships between them.
<<299>> Simple things like respect for the elders in the community
<<302>> and the importance of having a role that is valued
<<305>> has been seen to have a very positive impact
<<308>> on many of the biological functions
<<310>> that facilitate healthy ageing.
<<312>> Fewer people will be surprised to learn of the role
<<314>> that good, healthy eating has on our health.
<<318>> Various healthy diets have been researched
<<320>> and recommended over the years,
<<321>> and although research does indicate some specific benefits
<<325>> of one diet over another, such as the Mediterranean,
<<328>> vegan, paleo, keto, to name but a few,
<<331>> basically, just like exercise,
<<333>> it all comes down to finding the right diet for you.
<<337>> That provides you with the balance
<<338>> of micro and macronutrients that your body requires
<<342>> and that you enjoy enough to maintain it,
<<345>> and that can be quite personal.
<<347>> One other element contributing
<<349>> to prolonging the healthy part of our lifespan,
<<352>> which I would like to spend a little time on now,
<<354>> is smart supplementation.
<<358>> To be honest,
<<359>> before I tried dōTERRA's Lifelong Vitality combination,
<<362>> I was not a great believer in supplementation.
<<365>> But once I tried it, I realised what a difference it makes,
<<369>> in some way, compensating for the depletion
<<372>> in micronutrients that even the best diet has these days.
<<376>> I hadn't realised the impact the depletion
<<379>> in the nutritional content of our diets could have
<<381>> on my day-to-day health and energy levels.
<<384>> I certainly wouldn't be without my LLV now.
<<388>> But I'm not here today to talk about LLV.
<<391>> dōTERRA has, as always, invested sound scientific research
<<397>> to develop a new range of additional supplement
<<400>> that complement the LLV and that will support you
<<403>> with all those daily activities I talked about earlier
<<406>> to improve your metabolic health.
<<409>> MetaPWR has such a wide range of elements
<<412>> that it is hard to know where to start,
<<415>> but since dōTERRA is fundamentally an essential oil company,
<<418>> let's start with the MetaPWR essential oil blend.
<<423>> This is basically dōTERRA's Smart and Sassy version 2.0.
<<428>> It has the same combination of oils,
<<430>> Grapefruit, Lemon, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Peppermint,
<<434>> but in modified proportions.
<<436>> And this new formulation has been based
<<438>> on some beautifully elegant, laboratory-based science
<<441>> showing how this blend, in particular,
<<445>> influences cultured adipocytes,
<<447>> that is, fat cells grown in Petri dishes,
<<450>> to reduce the amount of fat they accumulate
<<452>> in a process called adipogenesis.
<<455>> I should emphasise
<<457>> that this is a laboratory-based experiment
<<459>> and it's hard to know exactly how this will manifest itself
<<462>> in the human body.
<<464>> However, it is interesting to see the amount of research
<<467>> that went into trying lots of different combinations
<<469>> of these essential oils,
<<471>> including looking at each one individually
<<473>> and seeing how the perfect combination
<<476>> in the perfect proportion
<<477>> works better than any of the individual oils.
<<480>> Perhaps more importantly, however,
<<482>> is that this blend tastes simply beautiful.
<<485>> I find a drop in my water during the day has been wonderful
<<489>> at curbing those between-meal cravings
<<491>> for sugar that I usually have, and so support me, of course,
<<495>> in maintaining a more healthy nutritional balance
<<497>> on a day-to-day basis.
<<500>> And the research on the other element
<<502>> of the MetaPWR range are just as powerful,
<<504>> if not more so.
<<506>> The MetaPWR Advantage Collagen and NMN preparation
<<509>> has been carefully researched
<<511>> to provide marine collagen in a format
<<513>> that is highly effectively absorbed by the body,
<<516>> in stark contrast to many other collagen preparations
<<519>> on the market whose bioavailability can be very limited.
<<522>> Preliminary research on NMN,
<<524>> along with other components
<<526>> in the MetaPWR Advantage range,
<<528>> indicates it is effective
<<529>> in increasing circulating NAD+ levels.
<<533>> MetaPWR Assist contains a brilliant combination
<<537>> of mulberry leaf extract, berberine, and cinnamon powder.
<<540>> So all the elements are supported
<<542>> by great laboratory research
<<544>> and are now being studied more extensively
<<546>> in clinical research.
<<549>> The more I found out about these products,
<<551>> the more convinced I am
<<552>> that they have a huge potential to support you
<<555>> in your activities towards great metabolic health.
<<559>> But I want to be clear,
<<560>> they are not a replacement for healthy exercise,
<<563>> healthy eating, good relationships, and reducing stress.
<<567>> They may help you realise the benefits
<<569>> of the changes you make more effectively in these areas,
<<572>> but there is no magic bullet.
<<573>> You do need to have to put in some effort.
<<577>> Nevertheless, even though I rely heavily
<<580>> on the scientific research behind such products,
<<583>> scientific research can only go so far.
<<587>> Everyone is different,
<<588>> and scientific research will always tend towards
<<591>> looking at the impact on the average
<<593>> or surrogate populations.
<<595>> What really counts is undoubtedly
<<597>> your own personal experience.
<<600>> So let me take the last few minutes to tell you
<<602>> about my own personal experience with MetaPWR.
<<606>> I am very privileged to be working so closely with dōTERRA,
<<609>> so much so that I had the benefit
<<611>> of being able to try these products out
<<613>> much earlier than most.
<<615>> I didn't have huge expectations
<<617>> of feeling enormously different to be honest,
<<620>> since I view caring for my metabolic health
<<622>> as a long-term investment,
<<624>> but somehow I was pleasantly reassured
<<627>> to feel some distinct and positive differences
<<629>> in several aspects of my life and wellbeing
<<632>> that I'm happy to share with you now.
<<634>> Firstly, my ability to focus and concentrate
<<638>> seems notably improved.
<<640>> I've had some pretty demanding challenges
<<642>> on my plate over the last few months
<<643>> and I have been relieved to find I can face them effectively
<<647>> and without feeling as drained and exhausted
<<649>> as I often used to feel, particularly in the afternoons.
<<653>> I was also curious to see if there would be any improvement
<<655>> in the strength of my knee joints,
<<658>> having read some articles about collagen and joint pain.
<<662>> I have some weakness in both my knees
<<663>> but particularly in my left knee,
<<665>> to the extent that if I am carrying heavy loads
<<668>> up or downstairs, I tend to lead with my right knee
<<671>> to reduce the pain and impact on my weakened knee.
<<674>> I honestly didn't realise there was a change at first,
<<676>> but rather gradually, I feel
<<678>> that I am no longer needing to make that compensation.
<<681>> I still notice my left knee is weaker than my right knee,
<<683>> for example, when doing some of my morning yoga poses.
<<686>> But I'm hopeful that it is getting gradually stronger
<<689>> and I'm looking forward to the day
<<690>> when I may suddenly realise it's no longer an issue.
<<694>> And so let me close with these thoughts.
<<697>> Your metabolic health, like all of your health,
<<700>> is to a large extent under your care and control.
<<704>> There are lots of things that you can do
<<706>> to improve your metabolic health,
<<707>> both short-term and long-term.
<<710>> Taking the steps may seem daunting,
<<712>> but even the smallest improvements
<<714>> in exercise, diet, stress control, healthy relationships,
<<717>> and supplementation can bring you great benefits.
<<721>> It seems clear to me that dōTERRA
<<723>> have applied scientific research very effectively
<<726>> to develop the new line of MetaPWR products,
<<728>> and these products really can help to make the impact
<<731>> of those small changes feel even better for you.
<<734>> I really hope you enjoy adding MetaPWR
<<737>> to your dōTERRA supplement regime every day,
<<740>> and I look forward to hearing more and more stories
<<742>> from people about how this and other dōTERRA product lines
<<746>> bring positive impact to many lives.
<<749>> Thank you, dōTERRA.
