<<0>> it's great to be with you and it's now

<<2>> my opportunity to speak with you for a

<<4>> few minutes about one of my favorite

<<7>> oils i hope it's one of yours as well

<<9>> doterra on guard and the role i feel it

<<12>> plays in supporting a healthy immune

<<15>> outcome for you and your families

<<17>> while we all understand the importance

<<19>> of immunity in our own personal health

<<21>> i'd like to share some additional

<<23>> thoughts for the role many of our

<<25>> products play in individual health and

<<27>> the regimens that you have for immunity

<<29>> on a regular basis now there's many ways

<<32>> to classify the use of essential oils

<<34>> and the value that they bring

<<36>> one of the things i would like to point

<<38>> out and i think this is critical for you

<<40>> to know and understand

<<41>> our own personal experience and so your

<<44>> personal experience remains one of the

<<47>> most significant in spite of everything

<<50>> that you'll hear from me and from others

<<52>> i would like to encourage you to trust

<<55>> your own experience and expand the depth

<<58>> of that experience on guard essential

<<60>> oil

<<61>> the blend and the additional products

<<64>> within the onguard line are core and

<<66>> central to a consistent model of

<<68>> resiliency expressed through your

<<71>> immunity

<<72>> our body's need for immune response can

<<74>> be categorized as well the first is an

<<77>> acute response a good way to think about

<<80>> this is that acute generally suggests

<<83>> that there's an immediate or fast

<<85>> response that's needed

<<87>> then there's chronic response this is

<<90>> thought of as a condition that may

<<92>> require long-term immune activity and

<<95>> finally of course there's our efforts

<<97>> toward individual prevention

<<100>> now more specifically and a more

<<102>> simplified thought would be to suggest

<<104>> that we're in a constant cycle of

<<106>> immunity which flows readily between our

<<109>> efforts for prevention and strengthening

<<111>> of the immune system and the need for

<<113>> effective and appropriate responses

<<115>> within the immune system

<<118>> this also allows us to understand more

<<119>> fully the different types of immunity

<<122>> for example our innate or barrier

<<124>> immunity is primarily focused on

<<126>> prevention many of the doterra products

<<129>> available to you are formulated and

<<131>> developed specifically with this in mind

<<135>> now i don't mean to imply that

<<137>> everything is simple and easy to

<<139>> accommodate and resolve if we just use

<<141>> essential oils i would like to apply

<<144>> that and we've all probably had

<<145>> wonderful experiences with the essential

<<148>> oils

<<149>> but many things are complicated they're

<<151>> difficult especially in circumstances of

<<154>> immunity

<<155>> it makes good sense that we learn to do

<<158>> things consistently that enhance our

<<160>> body's ability to respond efficiently

<<163>> and fully many many years ago as i began

<<167>> using the essential oils i was really

<<169>> enthusiastic about their use i remain

<<172>> that way today

<<174>> though i have to admit that my knowledge

<<176>> and my expertise

<<177>> has markedly changed

<<179>> today we know more about the essential

<<181>> oils we know more about their

<<183>> constituents and the ways they influence

<<185>> the body and the systems that they work

<<187>> within

<<188>> much of the study at doterra has really

<<191>> been focused on purity the specifics of

<<194>> the chemistry of the essential oils and

<<196>> the beneficial influence of that

<<198>> chemistry

<<199>> chemistry is one of the more significant

<<201>> ways to classify and understand

<<204>> essential oils now

<<206>> i made a commitment a long time ago to

<<208>> never talk about chemistry and i'm proud

<<211>> to announce that i have failed

<<213>> 100 of the time so you guessed it let's

<<216>> talk for just a minute about chemistry

<<219>> now i want to preface this by saying i

<<221>> really don't feel it's necessary for

<<223>> every person to have this in-depth

<<225>> understanding of chemistry to be able to

<<227>> use the essential oils effectively

<<230>> knowledge however of just a few key

<<232>> concepts can be really helpful and so my

<<235>> hope is that through a basic

<<236>> understanding of some of the principles

<<238>> i'll explain to you you'll discover

<<240>> additional uses of essential oils and

<<243>> maybe your expertise and your knowledge

<<244>> will increase and it'll give you

<<246>> additional confidence in using the

<<247>> essential oils oils which you may have

<<250>> not used before or previously not been

<<253>> familiar with

<<254>> one thing to be mindful of is that

<<257>> there's immense complexity in the

<<259>> chemistry of essential oils and each

<<262>> essential oil is unique in its own

<<264>> chemistry

<<265>> even seemingly subtle differences in

<<268>> chemistry can create notable and

<<270>> significant changes in the physical

<<272>> attributes of an essential oil and

<<274>> certainly differences in the benefits

<<276>> that they provide as well

<<278>> many essential oils may seem similar in

<<280>> their chemistry but they react and

<<283>> respond differently

<<285>> this is one of the fundamental reasons

<<287>> why many of the essential oils are often

<<290>> suggested

<<291>> as ideal to provide healthy support for

<<294>> the body as a whole we may have many

<<296>> ways to describe and separate essential

<<299>> oils by their chemical constituents

<<301>> all oils for example contain terpene

<<304>> units such as monoterpenes and

<<306>> sesquiterpenes now don't get so caught

<<309>> up in the terms i'm going to explain to

<<311>> you because i'm going to give you just a

<<313>> few key points to remember

<<315>> now the other thing to keep in mind is

<<318>> that aside from terpenes essential oils

<<320>> can also contain functional groups these

<<323>> are things like esters and alcohols

<<325>> ketones and of course there's many many

<<328>> others for on guard i'm going to limit

<<331>> our conversation to just a couple of

<<333>> different things one is monoterpenes

<<336>> and then one is three specific

<<338>> functional groups and how each one can

<<341>> relate to your own individual efforts to

<<343>> support a healthy immune capability so

<<346>> let's begin with monoterpenes now

<<349>> monoterpenes in the most basic sense are

<<351>> just a class of hydrocarbons and are one

<<354>> of several type of hydrocarbons that can

<<356>> be found in essential oils

<<358>> now one you're very familiar with the

<<361>> most common

<<362>> micro monoterpene is d

<<365>> one of the most common forms of limonene

<<368>> which is found abundantly in citrus oils

<<371>> in many citrus oils d-limonene it's a

<<374>> dominant compound and in some cases like

<<377>> for example wild orange or grapefruit

<<380>> it's nearly 100 percent of the oil's

<<383>> total chemistry

<<385>> now there's been much in the way of

<<386>> study on the lymanine and you're

<<388>> probably familiar with most of it and

<<390>> specifically its influence on

<<392>> glutathione and immunity is well

<<394>> understood through the clinical research

<<397>> while many essential oils contain

<<399>> monoterpenes here's a key point that

<<402>> those rich in d limonene are strong

<<405>> supporters of a healthy immune response

<<409>> now while all essential oils contain

<<411>> terpenes such as monoterpenes essential

<<414>> oils are also identified by compounds

<<417>> within functional groups

<<419>> now it's safe to say in a really general

<<421>> sense

<<423>> essential oils all essential oils

<<425>> contain terpenes and functional groups

<<427>> collectively

<<429>> several categories of functional groups

<<431>> exist

<<433>> but there are only three that are

<<434>> relevant to our discussion about on

<<436>> guard aldehydes alcohols and phenols

<<441>> there are notable and unique differences

<<443>> between each of these functional groups

<<446>> but it's more pertinent and may be

<<449>> simpler to suggest that each one has

<<451>> specific action and benefits for once

<<454>> again supporting your body's healthy

<<456>> immune response

<<458>> simply put oils rich in alcohol

<<461>> aldehydes and phenols and for that

<<464>> matter we could also now add d-lyminine

<<466>> as a monoterpene are good supporters of

<<469>> the immune system as a whole

<<472>> and remember that strengthening and

<<473>> supporting the immune system is a part

<<475>> of the cycle of immunity earlier i

<<478>> suggested that many essential oils and

<<481>> essential oil products may be helpful in

<<483>> supporting the immune system

<<486>> we also discussed that many times we

<<488>> have acute and immediate needs within

<<491>> that

<<492>> some oils are formulated to address

<<495>> those needs specifically for example

<<498>> breathe is a wonderful blend

<<500>> for easy breathing

<<501>> single oils like cinnamon thyme clove

<<505>> rosemary and eucalyptus

<<507>> may be used individually for specific

<<509>> needs unique to your own personal

<<512>> circumstance

<<514>> something i always appreciate most about

<<516>> the essential oils is that oftentimes

<<518>> they act fast and can help provide

<<521>> comfort and relief consistently

<<524>> remember the value of your own

<<526>> experience and the experience of other

<<529>> trusted individuals and sources

<<532>> one trusted source i would suggest is

<<534>> the doterra chemistry wheel now here

<<537>> again we're going to go into chemistry

<<539>> just a little bit but i want you to

<<540>> learn how to use the chemistry wheel and

<<543>> here's why it's so important

<<545>> we categorize very carefully each

<<547>> essential oil for its dominant chemical

<<550>> characteristics

<<552>> the wheel is separated into terpene

<<554>> units both monoterpenes and

<<556>> sesquiterpenes along of course with each

<<559>> functional group it's each one is

<<561>> represented on the wheel

<<564>> in each section you'll find essential

<<566>> oils you're familiar with such as

<<568>> cinnamon under the aldehyde section of

<<570>> the wheel but you'll also know that

<<572>> additional oils could be easily

<<574>> considered for similar benefit

<<577>> this is a good and productive way to

<<580>> take advantage of all of our many

<<582>> essential oils

<<584>> with that basic understanding let's look

<<586>> at the formulation of onguard

<<589>> it's important

<<590>> to note that several benefits emerge

<<593>> when blending essential oils onguard was

<<596>> one of the first blends we created in

<<598>> doterra

<<599>> i believe it's a must-have for every

<<601>> home

<<602>> in my opinion and through my own

<<604>> personal experience of essential oil it

<<606>> remains one of my most trusted and

<<608>> consistent and reliable sources for not

<<610>> just my own health but for the health of

<<612>> my family

<<614>> so first let's look at the specific

<<616>> formulation of on guard

<<618>> you should recognize that on on guard

<<620>> was formulated following the basic

<<622>> principles we discussed earlier it

<<624>> contains wild orange which includes

<<626>> high amounts

<<628>> of mono turpins more than 90 percent d

<<631>> limonene clove essential oil contains

<<634>> high amounts of a specific compound

<<636>> known as eugenol

<<638>> it's a phenol and it supports the body's

<<640>> natural ability to be resilient

<<643>> cinnamon has high amounts of an aldehyde

<<645>> known as cinnamon aldehyde

<<647>> among other benefits it's been shown to

<<649>> support the immune system response by

<<652>> inhibiting specific communication

<<654>> strains

<<655>> other

<<656>> oils like rosemary and eucalyptus

<<658>> contain an alcohol

<<660>> which can be clarifying and supports

<<662>> healthy immune activity

<<664>> all of these oils are found in the

<<667>> doterra on guard blend the blending of

<<669>> essential oils at doterra is a

<<671>> well-defined practice it encompasses our

<<675>> knowledge of science of chemistry and

<<677>> the best methods of artful technique

<<681>> experts in chemistry human physiology

<<684>> and safety

<<685>> all work together to ensure the highest

<<687>> quality and specific outcomes for each

<<691>> blend that we create

<<693>> while this all takes great skill

<<695>> there are additional reasons why

<<697>> blending oils in this way i believe is

<<700>> essential blending essential oils

<<703>> and especially in the case of on guard

<<705>> produces synergistic value synergy

<<709>> it's a word that's often spoken of as a

<<711>> key benefit of essential oils let me

<<714>> explain it a little bit further

<<715>> diversity of chemistry that resides in a

<<718>> pure single oil naturally

<<721>> is greatly enhanced when oils are

<<723>> blended together

<<725>> the most common phrase shared around

<<727>> synergy is the whole is greater than the

<<730>> sum of the parts

<<732>> so in order to understand synergy

<<734>> wholly it's good to first understand the

<<737>> basics of metabolism now i'm really not

<<740>> being very fair to you because first i

<<742>> said hey i'm going to talk about

<<743>> chemistry but don't worry now i'm going

<<745>> to say hey i'm going to talk about

<<747>> metabolism but don't worry it's not

<<749>> going to be difficult and it'll help you

<<751>> to understand a key point why i believe

<<755>> blended essential oils are significant

<<758>> now all essential oils we know that

<<760>> they're eventually metabolized by the

<<762>> liver which can produce secondary and

<<765>> tertiary metabolites that create

<<767>> additional benefit through chemical

<<769>> reaction or response in the body as a

<<771>> whole for example limonene which is

<<773>> found in citrus oils we talked about it

<<775>> earlier earlier is primarily metabolized

<<779>> into pyrulic acid although limonene

<<781>> itself is highly efficacious pyrulic

<<784>> acid mimics the effects of limonene and

<<786>> can demonstrate a stronger longer

<<788>> lasting effect

<<790>> another example is linoleum acetate

<<792>> which is present in high amounts in

<<794>> lavender clary sage bergamo and other

<<797>> essential oils

<<798>> enzymes in the body

<<800>> metabolize lineal acetate to lineal

<<803>> based on these examples it's easy to

<<806>> understand why all essential oils can

<<808>> exhibit synergy

<<810>> in the case of a blended oil however

<<813>> there's a few notable differences in how

<<815>> we view synergy let me share a specific

<<818>> concept associated with onguard

<<821>> the blending of multiple oils we already

<<824>> said greatly increases the number and

<<826>> diversity of individual constituents

<<829>> which may act on different targets

<<831>> within a single biochemical pathway or

<<835>> in due course multiple biochemical

<<838>> pathways for a wider range of immune

<<841>> response and support than is achieved by

<<843>> any single oil or constituent on their

<<846>> own

<<847>> now if you don't understand what i just

<<849>> said let me make it really really simple

<<851>> what i said is that onguard really works

<<854>> on guard is really valuable and it's

<<856>> because of how the body metabolizes it

<<858>> and because of the diversity in the

<<860>> chemistry we have greater outcome and we

<<862>> have much greater benefit this chemical

<<865>> synergy is what separates blends and

<<868>> single oils and separates essential oils

<<871>> as a whole from other forms of natural

<<874>> health practices

<<876>> now one of the things i consistently

<<877>> taught is that essential oils should

<<879>> become an integral part

<<881>> of your daily health routine

<<884>> though we may use oils based on episodic

<<887>> need additional advantages are always

<<890>> gained when we learn to use them

<<892>> consistently

<<893>> the metabolic synergy displayed by

<<895>> onguard also lends itself to the safety

<<898>> of essential oils and blends in general

<<901>> beyond the obvious nature of its quality

<<903>> and purity

<<905>> many of the products we discussed today

<<907>> in the context of immunity are often

<<910>> thought of for an as needed basis

<<913>> on guard is an oil blend along with

<<915>> other products in the onguard family

<<918>> are really and ideally used in a daily

<<921>> maintenance model well all essential

<<924>> oils are metabolized through the liver

<<926>> by enzymatic activity blended oils often

<<930>> reduce metabolic enzyme depletion

<<932>> primarily because of their chemical

<<934>> diversity

<<936>> metabolism still occurs

<<938>> but may occur over a broader spectrum of

<<941>> associated enzymes in short

<<944>> we are less likely to overwhelm the

<<945>> body's metabolic capacity

<<948>> that means greater benefit

<<950>> onguard is a wonderful oil that can help

<<953>> with the cycle of immunity preventing

<<956>> strengthening and responding

<<959>> when used with our other natural

<<960>> products some which i have mentioned and

<<963>> some which you'll hear about a little

<<964>> bit later

<<966>> it can be a powerful and efficacious

<<968>> tool for you and your family to use all

<<971>> year long

<<972>> now just one last thought earlier in our

<<975>> discussion today i mentioned that i have

<<977>> a high level of confidence

<<979>> and my confidence was appropriate not

<<981>> just due to the quality and purity of

<<983>> doterra oils and other products but also

<<986>> because of the research engaged in by

<<989>> ourselves and other institutions much of

<<992>> which as you are aware has been

<<994>> published and is available

<<996>> on guard has been studied in a number of

<<998>> different environments and research

<<1001>> models all demonstrating its unique and

<<1004>> strong value

<<1006>> i'm excited for you to hear from dr

<<1008>> nicole stevens i'm excited to call her

<<1011>> dr nicole stevens because she's worked

<<1014>> very hard and very diligently in her

<<1016>> area of study to become dr stevens

<<1019>> and many others who will share some of

<<1022>> their more compelling findings

<<1024>> it's been my pleasure to be with you

<<1026>> today i'm looking forward to

<<1028>> opportunities in the future where we can

<<1030>> be together

<<1031>> and share in a more personal way

<<1034>> may each of you and your families and

<<1036>> associates be blessed in all of your

<<1039>> endeavors be safe and be well

<<1042>> i look forward to a great future with

<<1044>> you together
